Youth Experience Sponsorship

The reach is the story.

Youth Experience Sponsorship clears the cost between a motivated kid and the thing they chose. Here’s what that looks like: real kids, real experiences, real yeses.

So far, more than 130 kids have heard “yes” and done the thing they chose. More than 185 experiences completed. More than 46 partner programs, across more than 36 kinds of experience.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn wanted to play basketball, and her mom Capri couldn’t cover camp on her own.

“I started off not being able to afford basketball camp, and once I came across the YES program they were able to get her into 24-8, where she developed basketball skills and fundamentals.”

— Capri, Brooklyn’s mother

Brooklyn started building skills she’d never had the chance to try.

The next year she wanted to cook, and YES funded that too. Same kid, following her own curiosity, with the door open each time.

Dalyla: “three remainder one”

Dalyla started third grade a year behind in math, and her mom Sara couldn’t cover tutoring on her own. Through YES, Dalyla started Kumon, twice a week. Within months she’d moved from a second-grade to a fourth-grade math level.

“We were looking together into an after school tutoring program but couldn’t afford it. And then we came across YES and they were able to make that happen.”

— Sara, Dalyla’s mother

In class one day, doing daily math, two of the smartest boys in Dalyla’s class hit a division problem and asked what the answer was. Dalyla had it: three remainder one.

“We don’t learn that in school, but since I went to Kumon, I know the answers.”

— Dalyla

Chicho: eleven days in the high Sierras

Chicho had never been away from his family before; his baby sister was two months old when he left for Camp ICR. His mom Annalee almost didn’t apply. A friend had to push her toward YES more than once before she made the call.

He came back eleven days later with dirt under his nails, talking nonstop about kayaking, new friends, the counselors, the food. For months, Annalee kept hearing new pieces of what the trip had meant to him.

What we measure, and what we don’t

Youth Experience Sponsorship tracks what it can show honestly: kids served, experiences completed, partners vetted, the range of program types.

We don’t claim to know which experience will change which kid’s life. What we do is take the cost out of the way and let the kid, the family, and the partner do the rest.
